Übersicht

ha-mcp is an unofficial MCP server built with FastMCP that bridges AI assistants and Home Assistant. Unlike Home Assistant's built-in MCP server which focuses on voice-style control of exposed entities, ha-mcp provides tools for configuring, building, and maintaining the smart home. It allows AI clients to create and edit automations, scripts, dashboards, and manage system settings. The server exposes 88 tools across categories like device control, system monitoring, file management, and YAML editing, and can be run in-process via a custom component, as an add-on, via Docker, or locally via stdio.

Wichtige Funktionen

  • 88 tools for Home Assistant interaction
  • In-process server via HACS custom component with full feature parity
  • Create, edit, and debug automations, scripts, and dashboards
  • Read-only mode toggle and per-tool enable/disable
  • Automatic edit backups and tool security policies
  • Bundled Agent Skills served as MCP resources
  • Optional OIDC authentication for remote access
  • Beta tools for YAML and file system editing

Voraussetzungen, Installation und Schnellstart

The recommended method is the HA-MCP Custom Component via HACS: add the `https://github.com/homeassistant-ai/ha-mcp-integration` repository in HACS, download, restart Home Assistant, and add the 'HA-MCP Server' integration. Alternatively, install the Home Assistant App/add-on from the store, or run via Docker using `ghcr.io/homeassistant-ai/ha-mcp` or PyPI using `uvx ha-mcp@latest`. Manual installation involves copying `custom_components/ha_mcp_tools/` into the HA config directory.

Nutzung

After installation, copy the connect URL from the integration's configure screen or add-on logs. Paste this URL into your AI client's MCP configuration. You can then interact with your Home Assistant using natural language, asking the AI to create automations, check states, or manage dashboards.
