VentureBeat appoints Rob Strechay as its first Lead Analyst for enterprise AI research

VentureBeat has appointed Rob Strechay as its first Lead Analyst and a founding analyst of VentureBeat Research. Strechay recently served as managing director and principal analyst at theCUBE Research. His appointment supports VentureBeat’s expansion into specialized research for technical leaders evaluating, purchasing, and deploying enterprise AI.

As companies move from generative AI experiments to production systems, enterprise leaders increasingly need guidance on multi-vendor orchestration, security weaknesses in agentic pipelines, and inefficient infrastructure utilization. VentureBeat says Strechay’s technical and operational background will support deeper analysis of those challenges beyond conventional news coverage.

Strechay’s background

Strechay has nearly three decades of experience spanning enterprise infrastructure, product leadership, and industry analysis. He held executive positions at startups including Zerto, joined Amazon Web Services to help develop a new analytics service, and worked in other enterprise infrastructure leadership roles.

He later became a senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, followed by his work as managing director and principal analyst at theCUBE Research and SiliconANGLE. In those roles, he conducted executive interviews and examined developments in cloud, data, and AI infrastructure.

His initial coverage will include cloud infrastructure, advanced data infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps orchestration and observability, plus the intersection of AI and enterprise security.

GPU utilization and VB Pulse research

Strechay has already contributed to VentureBeat’s research program. In May, he analyzed wasted compute capacity in enterprise AI infrastructure through a report on GPU utilization. He also reviewed the AI Infrastructure & Compute survey before its release.

His infrastructure focus complements VentureBeat’s monthly VB Pulse surveys, which examine agentic orchestration, agent reliability and evaluations, agentic security and identity, AI infrastructure and compute, and context layers such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

A June survey of 145 enterprises found that two-thirds had adopted a hedged AI model strategy instead of relying on one provider. The approach gained further relevance after an outage affecting Anthropic’s Claude models in June.

VB In Conversation

Strechay will host an expanded version of VentureBeat’s VB In Conversation video series. The interviews will focus on system architecture, deployment obstacles, and back-end infrastructure, featuring architects and product leaders responsible for enterprise AI platforms.

The series will be published on VentureBeat and its YouTube channel, alongside Strechay’s written analysis. VentureBeat also plans to involve enterprise practitioners in its monthly VB Pulse surveys and analyst briefings.
