Codex Finish Shout

Codex Finish Shout is an independent, open-source VS Code extension for developers using Codex on Windows. It brings project and agent activity into a local monitor and plays an audio reminder after project-wide activity has settled.

Monitor projects and agent tasks

View active projects and individual agent tasks, search and filter the overview, and expand task history. The interface supports English and Chinese, with light and dark themes. Completion detection uses a default 10-second settling window.

Local music reminders

The extension includes three short melodies and supports local MP3, WAV, WMA, M4A and AAC files, subject to installed codecs. Choose once, loop or timed playback, manage the playback queue, and configure volume, announcements and quiet hours. Ctrl+Alt+M stops music and the queue.

Install the Windows preview

1. Download the Windows x64 VSIX from GitHub Releases and install it using VS Code's Install from VSIX command.
2. Run Codex Finish Shout: Initialize Backend, complete the lifecycle Hook security authorization, and reload VS Code.
3. Open Project Monitor and choose a built-in melody or local audio file.

The VSIX bundles the player, PowerShell backend and music. It requires a trusted local Windows x64 workspace, VS Code 1.90 or later, and a Codex version with compatible completion notifications and lifecycle Hooks. This is a preview release; remote SSH, WSL, containers, browser VS Code and other operating systems are not supported in this preview.

Pricing and privacy

The extension is free and its code is MIT licensed; bundled music has separate redistribution terms. Monitoring reads local Codex state and may read conversation records to display task titles. The extension does not upload task data. It is an independent project, not an official OpenAI or Microsoft extension.
