Older Figma Make files need a backend upgrade before further editing

Figma’s migration guidance says older Make files must move to its newer backend to keep editing after the late-October requirement. Files created after mid-August already use the new foundation.

The change enables newer editing interfaces and a wider range of frameworks. Figma says typical upgrades take about 30 seconds, while files with many older versions may take up to ten minutes. Previously published files need to be republished afterward, including web, Community and template releases.

Why it matters

For shared prototypes, the republish step matters as much as successful migration. Check the public URL and core interactions afterward so collaborators are not left reviewing an older version.
